Predator Statistics
In June of 2001, the New York Times reported that 19%, nearly 1 in 5, of American children who use the internet have been illegally sexually solicited in the last year.
Only 10% of those solicited reported the incident to the authorities, even though such solicitation is illegal in all 50 states. This means fewer online predators are going to be caught, and many children might not tell their parents or teachers when such situations happen.
It was found that typical internet filtering software, and even parental supervision, had little or no effect in reducing the chance that the children would be solicited for sexual acts. This is why the Educational Internet goes beyond filtering, adding tracking and an Enclosed Internet.
These reports were compiled by the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire and the Pew Internet and American Life Project. A copy of the article is available at the New York Times website (registration required). Learn more about child protection...

Why We Do What We Do
Our founder, a South Carolina physician, started work on the Educational Internet after his young son discovered disturbing pornographic images on the Internet and asked troubled questions about them. Like the world around us, the Internet can be a bad place. We create an "Enclosed Internet" to isolate the most educationally relevant content for younger viewers, while allowing older viewers more freedom to explore, all the time giving parents the control needed to make sure their children are safe.
